Font analysis

I tested a number of different fonts for my punk rock magazine, using mostly grunge and bold fonts to make it appealable to my target audience. My magazine is aimed at people who enjoy alternative rock, punk, emo scream etc. and so it is important that I find a good font for this genre of magazine.

I explored 5 different fonts, my first is 3 thehard way remix.

My choice of this font is because of the eroded effect, the R appears to be dripping as though it were paint that was wet. It also appears as though it has been badly printed on as there are smudges and marks outside of the border where the writing should be.

My second is a song for Jennifer.

My choice of this font is because of the rough scrap book style that is often used. This has the effect of it looking slightly worn and grungy.

My third is phatgrunge bold.

My choice of this font is because again it looks quite eroded yet at the same time it is clear and easy to read as the black fill around the letters make it stand out.

My fourth is punk kid.

My choice of this font is because it looks as though it has been carelessly smudged and is very messy. This suits well with the punk effect. I also chose to place this on a slight angle to continue this carelessly done effect, linking to the “so what” attitude of punks.

My fifth is xenography.

My choice of this font is because it made the title stand out against the background. This is important because the title needs to be eye catching to draw in the audience and it also needs to appeal to its target audience.

My final decision is to use the punk kid font for my title but make some edits to it perhaps in terms of colour, size and position so that it is made to look more like a professional magazine.
